Updated for 2026. In Kazakhstan, car insurance includes compulsory motor third-party liability insurance (MTPL) and voluntary programs, including CASCO. MTPL compensates harm to victims caused by the fault of the insured driver, but does not cover damage to the at-fault driver's own car; CASCO protects the car itself within the risks and terms of a specific contract.

An MTPL contract is issued in electronic form. For an accident that meets the established conditions for simplified handling, a Europrotocol (joint accident statement) and online settlement may be used. If there are injured persons, disagreements between drivers, or other circumstances that rule out the simplified procedure, you must call the emergency services.

The list of risks, the deductible, the territory of cover, the notification deadlines and the CASCO documents are determined by the contract and the insurer's rules. The recommendations below should therefore be checked against your own policy and the legal requirements currently in force.

Car insurance combines several types of insurance: CASCO and compulsory motor third-party liability insurance:

1. CASCO car insurance is voluntary insurance of property interests related to the ownership, use and disposal of a land motor vehicle.

A CASCO policy will protect you against the following risks:

  • Road accidents
  • Unlawful acts of third parties
  • Theft of the motor vehicle
  • Falling objects (trees and their branches, stones, snow and ice, parts of buildings and objects thrown from a window)
  • Rollover
  • Collision (impact) with stationary or moving objects, namely structures, obstacles, animals and trees
  • Fire, explosion
  • Natural disasters
  • as well as any other damage to property.

We offer a choice of different car insurance programs. Choose what you need.

2. Car owner's third-party liability insurance (MTPL) is compulsory insurance of the car owner's civil liability; it applies only if the car owner is at fault in the accident.

Compulsory third-party liability insurance of vehicle owners

Compulsory insurance of the civil liability of vehicle owners is a compulsory type of insurance under the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 1 July 2003 No. 446-II "On Compulsory Insurance of the Civil Liability of Vehicle Owners".

What is a compulsory car liability insurance policy for?

  • The policy guarantees compensation of material damage to third parties incurred as a result of an accident caused by your fault
  • The policy does not insure your car; it guarantees compensation of damage to another person if you are at fault

How much will the insurance company pay to the injured party in the event of an insured event?

  • for harm caused to one car - no more than 907,200 tenge (600 MCI)
  • for harm caused to the life or health of each injured person - no more than 1,512,000 tenge (1,000 MCI)

The liability limits can be increased by concluding a voluntary third-party liability insurance contract.

Direct settlement

When an insured event occurs, to receive the insurance payment the injured party applies to the insurer with which the injured party has concluded a compulsory vehicle owners' liability insurance contract, provided that the person at fault for the insured event holds an insurance policy.
