What an insurance manager at a brokerage company does

An insurance manager at a brokerage company works on the client's side. Unlike an employee of an insurance company, who offers the products of a single insurer, a broker helps the client to compare the offers of different insurance companies, select suitable terms, and supports the contract throughout its term. Therefore the manager is expected not only to be able to sell but also to understand how insurance products are structured, how they differ from one another and where their limitations lie.

In day-to-day work the manager:

  • finds out the client's needs: what needs protecting, against which risks, for what period and on what budget;
  • requests and compares offers from insurance companies and prepares a clear summary of the terms for the client;
  • explains the difference between the sum insured, limits, deductible, exclusions and the payment procedure;
  • helps to collect documents and draw up the contract;
  • reminds clients about policy renewal and supports them when an insured event occurs;
  • keeps records of clients and deals, plans their own work and reports on results.

Which products you will offer

The range covers both compulsory and voluntary types of insurance for individuals and companies. Private clients most often need MTPL and CASCO, home insurance, policies for travel abroad, accident insurance and life insurance. Corporate clients need property, cargo and liability insurance, OSRNS, medical insurance for employees and programs for vehicle fleets. You can get to know the lines in the insurance services section.

A new employee does not have to understand all types of insurance from the first day. Usually people start with mass-market products for private clients and then gradually move on to more complex corporate programs, which require risk analysis and working with several insurers at the same time.

Which qualities matter in a candidate

  • Sociability and the ability to listen. A good sale in insurance begins with questions, not with a product presentation.
  • Attention to detail. An error in the details of the policyholder, the object or the insurance period can lead to problems at the time of payment.
  • Honesty. It is important for the client to know in advance what the policy does not cover — this is the basis for long relationships and repeat business.
  • Willingness to learn. Insurance rules, legal requirements and insurers' offers change, and they need to be tracked.
  • Self-organization. Working with a client base requires planning: calls, meetings, reminders about contract renewals.

If you have no insurance experience

As stated above, we also consider candidates without insurance experience if they are interested in the profession and want to develop. Sales experience in other fields — banking services, real estate, cars, services for business — transfers well to insurance. You can study the basics of insurance terms in advance: our glossary contains definitions of sum insured, deductible, insured event and other concepts that a manager meets every day.

How to apply for the vacancy

Candidates' frequently asked questions

Do I need a personal licence to work as a manager?

The licence for insurance brokerage activity is obtained by the company, not by an individual employee. At the same time, a manager must know the requirements of legislation and the internal rules for working with clients — this is taught on the job.

How is pay structured?

The terms are drawn up in accordance with legislation, and an incentive system is provided. Details are discussed at the interview.

Can I send a CV if there is no suitable vacancy at the moment?

Yes. We also consider the CVs of specialists in insurance and finance, marketing and sales for the future. The company's contact details are also given on the contacts page.
