What a regional development manager does

At an insurance broker, regional development means expanding the company's presence beyond its main office: finding clients and partners in regional centers and other cities, building sales channels and supporting clients locally. Typical tasks in this position:

  • analysis of the region's insurance market: the structure of business, the main industries, insurance needs, the presence of insurance companies;
  • finding and attracting corporate and private clients, holding negotiations and presentations;
  • selecting and training agents and partners, and monitoring the quality of their work;
  • preparing commercial proposals and comparing insurers' terms for clients;
  • supporting contracts: renewing policies and helping clients when insured events occur;
  • sales planning, maintaining the client base and reporting to management.

The specific list of duties, the region of work and the terms are discussed with the candidate at the interview.

Which knowledge and skills are useful

  • an understanding of the main types of insurance: compulsory (MTPL, OSRNS and others) and voluntary (CASCO, property insurance, liability insurance, medical insurance);
  • knowledge of the basic provisions of the insurance legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and of the role of the ARDFM as the market regulator;
  • sales and negotiation skills with business executives and owners;
  • the ability to work with figures: sales analysis, assessing the effectiveness of channels, preparing reports;
  • English — for working with the documents of international partners and reinsurers;
  • confident use of office software and customer management systems.

  3. If you have no insurance experience, tell us about related experience in sales, finance, banking or marketing, and why the insurance industry interests you.

What matters in the work of an insurance broker

A broker works on the client's side: helping them to understand the terms, compare the offers of different insurers and choose protection that really matches their risks. That is why this job calls for more than sales skills: honesty, attention to the details of the contract, readiness to explain complicated matters in plain language, and supporting the client after the policy has been issued — especially when an insured event occurs.
