The first insurance licence in Kazakhstan and its own network of clinics

Interteach: medical insurance backed by its own healthcare

JSC “Kazakh Corporation of Healthcare and Medical Insurance “INTERTEACH” (Interteach) is one of the oldest insurance organisations in the country. The company appeared in 1989 with the support of the World Health Organization and became the first in the Republic of Kazakhstan to receive an official licence for insurance activities. The main feature of Interteach is the combination of an insurer and a medical care provider: the group operates more than 30 clinics of its own, a round-the-clock medical assistance service and an ambulance service. A policy here is therefore not only a payout, but real access to a doctor.

From a school of medical management to a national insurer

The company’s origins lie in an international programme for training specialists in medical and insurance management, supported by the WHO Regional Office for Europe. When the educational task was completed, the team put its accumulated experience into practice and focused on medical insurance. This is how the “Interteach” corporation emerged in 1989, and it later became the first in the country to be licensed for insurance activities. The company still stresses that its licence was historically the first in Kazakhstan.

Over more than 35 years of operation, Interteach has grown into a large medical and insurance group. The company defines its mission as sustainable leadership in the market of medical and insurance services through technological sophistication, customer focus, a professional team and responsibility to society. The quality of its processes is confirmed by international ISO certificates, and the corporation itself takes part in charitable and social projects of national scale.

Shareholders and management

According to the ARDFM, a major participant of Interteach is Saule Dzhundubayeva, who also chairs the company’s board of directors. The insurer’s management board is headed by Anar Isayeva. In the regulator’s register the company is not listed as a member of an insurance holding or insurance group.

As an insurer, Interteach is registered in Almaty and has one branch, the Akmola branch, located in Astana. The wide geography described below is provided primarily by the group’s medical infrastructure (clinics, medical posts and the ambulance service) rather than by insurance branches.

Regulation and supervision

Interteach is licensed and supervised by the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM). Its current licence is No. 2.1.27 dated 12.08.2024, line of business “general insurance”. Historically the company was the first in the country to obtain a licence for insurance activities, but today the insurer operates under a licence issued by the ARDFM. Information on management, major participants and branches is published by the regulator in the register of financial organisations.

Geography: clinics from Almaty to Kulsary

Interteach’s medical infrastructure is present in Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Aktobe, Kyzylorda, Uralsk, Aktau, Aksai, Atyrau, Kostanay, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Kulsary. Most clinics are family clinics for adults and children. In addition to outpatient care, the group provides 24/7 emergency assistance, coordinates medical evacuation and transportation, carries out preventive check-ups (including to OGUK standards for work on offshore platforms) and provides long-term medical support for personnel at production sites. For the policyholder this means that many services under the policy are provided in the group’s “own” facilities, without lengthy approvals from third-party clinics.

How to report an insured event

  1. Contact the company

Under a medical policy, first contact Interteach’s round-the-clock medical assistance: a coordinating doctor will recommend a clinic and arrange care. For motor insurance, report the accident to the contact centre or use the “An insured event has occurred” section on the website.

  2. Record the event

For a minor accident with no injuries and no disagreements, you can complete a Euro Protocol. In other cases, keep police documents, medical reports, receipts and photographs.

  3. Submit the documents

The claim form and supporting documents are submitted through online claims settlement or at the company’s office.

  4. Track the status

You can check the progress of the review in the settlement status service on the website; once a decision has been made, the payment is transferred to the specified bank details, or the service is paid for directly to the clinic.

Important: under voluntary health insurance and travel policies, do not pay for treatment yourself until you have agreed it with the assistance service; otherwise reimbursement may require additional documents or may be limited by the terms of the contract.
