Why a company needs corporate health programmes
Corporate fitness discounts are one of the simple ways to support employees’ health. Regular physical activity helps to reduce fatigue, maintain working capacity and cope more easily with the strain of office work. For the employer such programmes are part of a benefits package that helps retain staff and build a culture of caring for health. The most lasting effect comes from programmes in which sport is combined with medical support and insurance protection.
How fitness is connected with insurance
Voluntary health insurance
A voluntary health insurance (VHI) policy allows employees to receive outpatient and inpatient care in the clinics provided for by the programme. Before starting intensive training it is useful to have a medical check-up, and in case of injury – to see a doctor; if the VHI programme covers this, the insurer will bear the cost of treatment. See the health insurance section for details.
Accident insurance
Sprains, bruises and more serious injuries are possible during sport. Voluntary accident insurance provides for a payment in the event of injury, disability or death of the insured. Pay attention to the terms: in some contracts, participation in certain sports, especially professional or extreme ones, is an exclusion or requires additional approval. You can estimate the approximate cost in the accident insurance calculator.
How this differs from OSRNS
Compulsory employee accident insurance (OSRNS) covers cases connected with the performance of work duties. An injury received at a fitness club in personal time, as a rule, does not fall under this type of insurance, so voluntary programmes are used to protect employees outside work. Options for comprehensive staff protection are collected in the employee insurance section.
How to make good use of a membership
- Start with fitness testing and a consultation with an instructor to choose a manageable load.
- Increase intensity gradually, especially after a long break.
- If you have chronic illnesses, consult a doctor beforehand.
- Choose a convenient visit format: with a busy schedule, a membership for 2–3 days a week is more cost-effective.
- Keep documents if you are injured – they will be needed to apply to the insurer.
If you want to supplement your employees’ benefits package with health insurance or accident insurance, you can get a consultation on choosing a programme.
