Life insurance from the country’s largest financial group
JSC “Life Insurance Company “Halyk-Life” (Halyk-Life)
Halyk Life is a life insurance company that has been helping Kazakhstanis save money, protect their health and secure additional retirement income since 2005. The insurer’s sole shareholder is Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan, so Halyk Life is part of Halyk Group and relies on the financial strength of one of the oldest and largest banks in the country. The company positions itself as the leader of the life insurance market by assets, equity and insurance reserves, and it already counts more than 800 thousand people among its clients.
History: from licence to market leadership
The company was founded in 2005 and received its licence to carry out insurance activities as early as 2006. In 2009 the insurer expanded its licence and began regional expansion, opening a network of branches across Kazakhstan. Its work on the market has been recognised by the professional community: in 2013 the National Business Rating agency awarded the company the title “Industry Leader” for the first time, and confirmed it again in 2015.
An important milestone was 2016, when the company was reorganised by way of a merger with JSC Kazkommerts-Life. As a result, the portfolios and experience of two major bank-owned life insurers were combined. In 2021 clients received their own mobile app, and in 2022 the company obtained a renewed licence and declared ESG transformation one of its key strategic goals.

Regulation and supervision
Halyk Life is licensed and supervised by the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM). The company operates under licence No. 2.2.12 dated 28.12.2022 in the “life insurance” line of business. Information on management, major participants, branches and membership of an insurance group is published by the regulator in the register of financial organisations, and the company itself must comply with prudential standards on capital, reserves and solvency.
Financial strength
For life insurance contracts concluded for ten, fifteen years or longer, the stability of the insurer matters more than any advertising. Halyk Life has two international ratings. S&P Global Ratings assigned the company a “BBB-” rating on the international scale and the highest level, “kzAAA”, on Kazakhstan’s national scale, which the company itself describes as the highest in the country. A.M. Best rates its financial strength at “B++”. Both ratings were affirmed in spring 2025 with a “Stable” outlook.

How to report an insured event
Notify the company
Inform Halyk Life as soon as possible of an event that may be an insured event, by calling the contact centre, visiting an office or online.
Fill in the claim form
State the contract or policy number, the details of the insured person, and the time and circumstances of the event. The website provides claim forms for savings and non-savings contracts, for compulsory employee insurance and for the “Halyk-Kazyna” policy.
Attach the documents
The list of supporting documents depends on the type of risk and is set out in the insurance rules of the specific programme.
Receive the decision and payout
After reviewing the documents, the company makes a decision and transfers the payment to the beneficiary. When a savings contract expires, a payout application is also submitted.
Important: the terms, exclusions and amount of payments are determined by the insurance rules and the contract. Before concluding a long-term contract, study carefully which events are covered and what happens on early termination.
