JSC LIC “Centras Life” (formerly Kommesk-Omir)
Centras Life is a life insurance company that until March 2026 was known as Kommesk-Omir. Its history begins in 1991, which is why the company calls itself the most experienced insurance company in Kazakhstan: 35 years in the industry, more than half a million clients and over KZT 38.4 billion in claims paid. Today the insurer specialises in pension annuities, endowment life insurance and employee protection, and is part of the Centras Group ecosystem.
History: from Kommesk-Omir to Centras Life
The joint-stock commercial insurance company Kommesk-Omir was established on 19 November 1991. In 1992 it already had a network of regional branches, and in 1994 it obtained a licence for the main types of insurance. In the 1990s and 2000s the company developed as a notable general insurer: it cooperated with Zurich Insurance Company, created insurance pools, and in 2007 its shares were included in the official list of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange. The company repeatedly received industry awards, and in 2012 it made one of the largest payouts in the history of the Kazakhstani market — more than KZT 4 billion in respect of a fire.
In 2019 a life insurance subsidiary, Centras Kommesk Life, was registered, and it received its licence in 2020. In 2022 Kommesk-Omir decided to switch its line of business to life insurance and transferred its general insurance portfolio to Centras Insurance. In 2023 Centras Kommesk Life was merged into Kommesk-Omir, and the company obtained licences for life insurance and life reinsurance. On 17 March 2026 state re-registration was completed: the new name is JSC LIC “Centras Life”. All rights and obligations, including existing insurance contracts, remained unchanged.

Regulation and supervision
Centras Life is licensed and supervised by the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market (ARDFM). The current licence is No. 2.2.17 dated 22.04.2026. Information on the company’s management, major shareholders and branches is published by the regulator in the list of financial organisations.
According to ARDFM, the company’s management board is headed by Oleg Khanin and the board of directors by Yeldar Abdrazakov. The insurance holding is Centras Capital LLP, and the major shareholder is Ye. S. Abdrazakov. The head office is in Almaty, and the regional network has 16 branches: in Almaty, Astana, Aktobe, Atyrau, Aktau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Pavlodar, Taldykorgan, Atbasar, Petropavlovsk, Uralsk, Shymkent, Karaganda, Kostanay, Kyzylorda and Taraz.
Ratings and quality standards
The company has long worked with international rating agencies: in 2009 Moody’s assigned it a financial strength rating for the first time, and since 2015 it has been rated by A.M. Best. In 2018 A.M. Best raised its financial strength rating to “B-”, and it has been regularly affirmed since. The latest affirmation took place on 26 August 2026, already for Centras Life — with a stable outlook. The company’s quality management system is certified to the ISO 9001 standard.

Report the event
Contact Centras Life through the contact centre or a company office as soon as an event that may be an insured event occurs.
Submit an application
Provide the contract details, the insured person and the circumstances of what happened.
Attach documents
Medical and other supporting documents — as listed in the insurance rules of your programme.
Receive the payment
After reviewing the documents, the company makes a decision and transfers the payment to the beneficiary.
Important: the change of name to Centras Life did not affect existing Kommesk-Omir contracts — they remain in force on the same terms, and there is no need to reissue your policy.
